The Cover Plate is made from Corrosion Resistant Stainless Steel and is designed to withstand the elements and works with the Gasket to greatly reduce moisture from entering the wing above the Main Landing Gear Strut and finding it's way to critical structural areas.
The dome on the Cover Plate is designed to meet clearance dimensions for the Main Strut servicing valve. (The servicing valve and cap protrude slightly above the upper wing surface when the Main Gear is installed).
