The Cover Plate and Gasket

The Cover Plate is made from Corrosion Resistant Stainless Steel and is designed to withstand the elements and works with the Gasket to greatly reduce moisture from entering the wing above the Main Landing Gear Strut and finding it's way to critical structural areas.   

The dome on the Cover Plate is designed to meet clearance dimensions for the Main Strut servicing valve. (The servicing valve and cap protrude slightly above the upper wing surface when the Main Gear is installed). 

Corrosion will result from intrusion and entrapment of moisture. To avoid this:  

• Keep the area around the metal surface dry;
• Use drying agents and moisture barrier products.

Corrosion prevention of aircraft structure depends on a comprehensive corrosion prevention and control plan, implemented from the start of operation of an aircraft, which includes, adequately-trained personnel in:

• Recognition of corrosion-inducing conditions;
• Corrosion identification techniques; 
• Corrosion detection, cleaning, and treating;
• Lubrication and preservation of aircraft structure and components.
