Prior to purchasing our Kit, please physically verify and consult the Aircraft Records to ensure that your Main Landing Gear has not been replaced with the new style (reference Piper Service Bulletin XXXXX. This applies to the following Aircraft:

PA-28-150 Cherokee 28-1 through 28-4377, 28-1760A

PA-28-151 Warrior 28-7415001 through 28-7715314

PA-28-160 Cherokee 28-1 through 28-4377, 28-1760A

PA-28-161 Warrior II 28-7716001 through 2816109

PA-28-161 Cadet 2841001 through 2841365

PA-28-180 Cherokee 28-3 through 28-7205318

PA-28-180 Archer 28-E13, 28-7305001 through 28-7505259

Useful tips for making the determination:

  1. A quick physical inspection of the Aircraft will easily provide the information necessary to determine if the Main Landing Gear has been replaced. Gain access to the servicing area of the Main Landing Gear Strut by removing the "Plug or Wilkie" button located on the the top of the wing. The best way to tell the difference between the original and replacement struts, is that the original Gear Strut servicing valve is recessed in the  Strut Cylinder Head (as shown by the white arrow) while mounted flush in the replacement Strut Cylinder Head.
  2. Consult the Aircraft Log Book to verify Main Landing Gear replacement (per Piper SB1131A). Keep in mind that your aircraft might have had just one side replaced and the other side is still original.

This picture shows the difference between the Original Main Landing Gear (Left) and the replacement Gear (right). The Main Landing Gear on the right has a larger Cylinder Head that cannot be removed without removing the entire strut from the aircraft. You can see that a portion of the Cylinder Head is located under the upper spar when the Gear in installed. (The red lines depict where the Main Gear would rest against the lower portion of the Upper Main Spar when installed).
